Internal Family Systems

Sculpture entiled Love by Alexandr Milov

IFS, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, maintains that it is the nature of the mind to be subdivided into sub-personalities, or “parts.” Every person has a “Self” and it is this Self that can and should lead all of the parts, or, the “internal family”.

The goal of IFS therapy is to achieve balance and harmony within the internal system by differentiating and elevating the self so that it can be an effective leader of the system. As an IFS practitioner, I will guide you to identify the undamaged core of the Self, encourage you to self-disclose and take responsibility for your behavior, and work with you to learn to trust the wisdom of the internal family.
